Carter Credit Union Settlement Resolves Class Action Lawsuit Over 2025 Cyberattack

Carter Credit Union has agreed to a class action settlement to resolve a lawsuit that alleged the financial institution failed to adequately safeguard sensitive information from a June 2025 data breach.

The Carter Credit Union class action settlement received preliminary court approval on July 23, 2026. Eligible for the settlement are all individuals whose personally identifiable information was compromised because of the data incident experienced by Carter Credit Union beginning on or around June 25, 2025.

Court documents state that approximately 105,185 people are included in the settlement class.

The court-approved Carter Credit Union data breach settlement website can be found at CCUDataSettlement.com.

Settlement class members who file a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $2,500 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred between June 25, 2025 and November 19, 2026 due to the data breach. This benefit covers losses from identity theft or fraud and costs for credit reports, credit monitoring, freezing/unfreezing credit, replacement IDs, postage, and more.

Class members must submit proof, such as bank statements or receipts, to receive a documented-loss payment.

In lieu of a documented-loss payment, class members can submit a claim form to receive a $50 cash payment, with no proof required.

In addition, all class members can elect on their claim form to receive three years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes credit monitoring and financial fraud insurance.

To submit a Carter Credit Union settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the login ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete and return by mail to the settlement administrator.

All Carter Credit Union settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by November 19, 2026.

The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the Carter Credit Union settlement following a hearing on November 30, 2026. Benefits will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.

The Carter Credit Union class action lawsuit alleged that the federal credit union, which has locations in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas, failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures to safeguard personal information from a third-party cyberattack that occurred from June 25 through July 2, 2025.

Court documents state that sensitive information that may have been compromised in the data breach included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license and government-issued ID numbers, financial information, medical information, health insurance information, dates of birth, and other personally identifiable and protected health information.
