The Family Dollar settlement, which received preliminary approval from the court on April 15, 2025, covers anyone who bought any Family Dollar-brand ground coffee products, including Chestnut Hill Classic Roast Ground Coffee in 33.9-oz, 10.3-oz and 9.6-oz container sizes, in the United States at any time between January 1, 2019 and April 15, 2025.
The court-approved class action settlement website can be found at FDCoffeeSettlement.com.
According to the settlement website, Family Dollar settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form with no proof of purchase may be able to receive one coffee product voucher redeemable for one 9.6-oz container of Chestnut Hill Classic Roast ground coffee at any Family Dollar store.
Class members can file a Family Dollar coffee claim form online on this page. Alternatively, to file by mail, class members can download a PDF of the claim form to print, fill out and mail back to the address listed at the top of the form.
No proof of purchase is required to submit a claim form, and only one claim may be submitted per household. The amount of the coffee product voucher may be decreased on a pro rata basis depending on the total number of claims that are filed, the website says.
All claims must be submitted by July 21, 2025.
The class action settlement also requires Family Dollar to work with its manufacturer to change the labeling of its ground coffee products, either by removing “the language about the number of cups of coffee that can be made” upon following the on-label brewing instructions, or revising the language to be consistent with “verified testing results from a reputable third-party laboratory.”
Compensation will be distributed to eligible class members only if the settlement receives final approval from the court. A final approval hearing will take place on July 21, 2025, and, in the event of approval, class members will receive their compensation following that date and the resolution of any appeals.
The class action lawsuit against Family Dollar Stores Inc. alleged that the labels of Family Dollar-brand ground coffee products falsely overstated the amount of coffee each container could actually make when following the on-package brewing instructions.
