The $675,000 Alta Resources Corporation class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on March 6, 2026. The agreement covers all individuals who were notified that their private information was potentially compromised in the November 2023 data breach.
Court documents state that cybercriminals may have accessed the private information of approximately 37,363 people during the cyberattack.
The court-approved website for the Alta Resources settlement can be found at AltaResourcesSettlement.com.
Alta Resources settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $2,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred between November 17, 2023 and August 17, 2026 due to the data breach. The benefit covers losses incurred due to identity theft or fraud and costs for credit monitoring and reports, freezing/unfreezing credit, replacement IDs, and more.
Class members must submit proof, such as bank statements or receipts, to receive an out-of-pocket-loss payment.
In lieu of a documented-loss payment, class members can instead submit a claim form to receive an alternative cash payment of approximately $50, with no proof required.
The final amount of each class member’s cash payout may be reduced on a pro rata basis should the total amount of valid claims exceed the aggregate benefits cap of $675,000.
Finally, in addition to monetary benefits, all class members are eligible to receive two years of one-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft insurance. Per the settlement site, enrollment codes have been sent to class members, who will receive activation instructions following final approval of the settlement.
To submit an Alta Resources settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the unique ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, fill out and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
All Alta Resources settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked no later than August 17, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant the Alta Resources settlement final approval following a hearing on July 6, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members, and codes for credit monitoring services can be activated, only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The Alta Resources class action lawsuit alleged that the company failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures to protect private information from a data breach that occurred between November 17 and 18, 2023.
According to the suit, private information that may have been compromised during the breach included names, Social Security numbers, financial account information, taxpayer or government-issued IDs, and health insurance and other medical information.
