$6.1M Laboratory Services Cooperative Settlement Wraps Up Data Breach Lawsuit

Laboratory Services Cooperative (LSC) has agreed to a $6.1 million class action settlement to resolve litigation that alleged the nonprofit diagnostic testing services provider, which works with Planned Parenthood centers in more than 30 states, failed to safeguard sensitive personal and medical information from a data breach that reportedly impacted up to 1.6 million people.

The Laboratory Services Cooperative class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on July 27, 2026. The deal covers all United States residents whose personal information was potentially compromised as a result of the data breach Lab Services became aware of on or about October 27, 2024. 

ClassAction.org will update this post when the court-approved Laboratory Services Cooperative settlement website is launched. 

Settlement class members who submit a valid, timely claim form can receive up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred due to the Laboratory Services Cooperative data breach. This benefit covers expenses related to identity theft or fraud and costs for professional fees, credit repair services, freezing or unfreezing credit, credit monitoring, notary fees, postage, and more. 

Class members must submit proof, such as receipts, to receive a documented-loss payout. 

Class members can also file a claim form to receive an up to $1,000 pro rata cash payment. 

Finally, all settlement class members can submit a claim form to receive two years of CyEx Medical Shield Complete, which includes medical data monitoring, one-bureau credit monitoring, and identity theft protection.

ClassAction.org will update this page when information on how to file a Laboratory Services Cooperative settlement claim form, and by when, becomes available. 

The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the Laboratory Services Cooperative data breach settlement following a hearing on a yet-to-be-scheduled date. Settlement benefits will begin to be distributed after the deal has received final approval and any appeals are resolved. 

Eight Laboratory Services Cooperative class action lawsuits alleged that the Seattle-based independent clinical lab, which provides diagnostic testing services for Planned Parenthood facilities in dozens of states, failed to protect the sensitive personal and medical information of workers and its clients’ current and former patients from a major data breach discovered by LSC in October 2024.

According to the lawsuits, the information impacted in the incident includes Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state ID numbers, passport numbers, banking and financial details, insurance and billing information, demographic data, diagnoses, treatments, medical information, lab results, provider names, and more. 

One lawsuit alleged that the LSC data breach differed from typical cyber incidents in that it affected “patients who had no relationship with LSC, never sought one, and never consented to LSC collecting and storing their information.”
