The Orthopedics Rhode Island class action settlement received preliminary court approval on August 27, 2025 and covers all living United States residents who were notified that their personal information may have been impacted in the Orthopedics Rhode Island data breach.
The court-approved website for the Orthopedics Rhode Island settlement can be found at ORISettlement.com.
Orthopedics Rhode Island settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form can receive medical record monitoring services and either a cash payment of approximately $100 or up to $5,000 in reimbursement for losses related to the data breach, the settlement website says.
In order to submit a claim for reimbursement, class members must submit reasonable documentation of each data breach-related loss, such as telephone records, emails, letters or receipts.
The settlement website notes that the $100 cash payment is mutually exclusive from the loss reimbursement option, meaning class members may choose only one benefit with their claim. The medical record monitoring services may be claimed along with either payment option, the website shares.
To submit a claim form online, class members can visit this page of the settlement website and log in with the unique settlement claim ID found in their copy of the settlement notice.
Alternatively, a PDF claim form is available to print, fill out and mail back to the address listed at the top of the form.
All claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by January 13, 2026.
Per court documents, Orthopedics Rhode Island has also agreed, as part of the settlement, to implement additional cybersecurity measures to better protect against future attempted data breaches.
A hearing is scheduled for January 28, 2026 to determine whether the settlement will receive final approval from the court. Settlement benefits will begin to be distributed only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The Orthopedics Rhode Island class action lawsuit claimed that the healthcare provider was negligent in its data security, as it allowed unauthorized third parties to access the sensitive personal and health information of approximately 377,731 people between September 4 and September 8, 2024. Per the lawsuit, the compromised data included names, dates of birth, addresses, health insurance claims information, billing and claims information and medical data, such as test results, x-ray images, medications, diagnoses and other treatment information.
