The Communication Federal Credit Union class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on August 21, 2025 and covers all United States residents whose personal information was potentially exposed during the Communication Federal Credit Union data incident, which occurred between late December 2023 and early January 2024, including everyone who received a data breach notification letter.
The court-approved website for the Communication Federal Credit Union data breach settlement can be found at https://www.CFCUDataIncidentSettlement.com/.
Communication Federal Credit Union settlement class members who submit a valid, timely claim form have multiple options for reimbursement. Per the settlement website, those who submit documented proof of out-of-pocket costs incurred between December 31, 2022 and December 22, 2025 as a result of the data breach are eligible to receive a one-time cash payment of up to $7,500. Reimbursable data breach expenses may include costs related to identity theft, fees for credit reports and costs to replace IDs.
In lieu of a documented-loss payment, class members may submit a claim form for a share of the settlement fund, which the settlement website says will be a one-time, pro-rated cash payout of approximately $125. Per the CFCU settlement website, the total payout amount each class member is eligible to receive may change based on the total number of valid claims filed.
Per the settlement agreement, all eligible class members have the option to receive their payment via check or electronic payment, and checks must be cashed within 90 days after the date of issuance before expiring.
In addition to either monetary reimbursement option, all settlement class members may also submit a claim to enroll in three free years of identity theft protection and credit monitoring services, the website adds.
To submit a Communication Federal Credit Union claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the class member ID found in their copy of the settlement notice. Consumers who believe they may be a class member but did not receive a class action settlement notice can contact the settlement administrator to confirm their identity and receive their login ID.
Alternatively, a class member can download a PDF copy of the claim form to print, fill out, and return by mail to the address listed on the bottom of the second page of the form.
Communication Federal Credit Union settlement claim forms must be submitted online or by mail by December 22, 2025.
The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the CFCU settlement at a hearing on January 7, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to consumers only after final approval is granted and any appeals are resolved.
The Communication Federal Credit Union class action lawsuit claimed that an unauthorized actor targeted the institution’s website sometime between December 31, 2023 and January 11, 2024, and potentially accessed consumer data. Per court documents, the user information impacted by the data breach included, but was not limited to, names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, bank account information and credit card numbers.
