The $2.5 million Pennsylvania State Education Association class action settlement received preliminary court approval on March 18, 2026. The deal covers all individuals in the United States whose private information was potentially compromised as a result of the data breach, including all who were sent a notification from PSEA about the breach on or around March 18, 2025.
The court-approved website for the PSEA data breach settlement can be found at PSEADataSettlement.com.
Settlement class members who submit a timely, valid claim form can receive up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket losses incurred between July 6, 2024 and March 18, 2026 and fairly traceable to the data breach. This benefit covers expenses related to identity theft or fraud and costs for credit reports, credit monitoring, fraud resolution services, and more.
Class members must submit proof, such as receipts or bank statements, to receive an out-of-pocket-loss payment.
In lieu of an out-of-pocket-loss payment, class members can instead submit a claim form to receive an alternative cash payment of $50, with no proof required.
The final amount of each class member’s cash payment may be adjusted on a pro rata basis, depending on the total number of valid claims filed.
In addition, all class members may submit a claim form for two years of one-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft insurance.
To submit a PSEA settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the class member ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, fill out and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
All Pennsylvania State Education Association settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by July 6, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant the PSEA data breach settlement final approval following a hearing on July 27, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The Pennsylvania State Education Association class action lawsuit alleged that the teachers’ union failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures to prevent a data breach that occurred on or around July 7, 2024.
Per the complaint, personal information that may have been compromised in the breach included full names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers or state IDs, account numbers, account PINs, security codes, passwords and routing numbers, payment card numbers and PINs, payment card expiration dates, passport numbers, taxpayer ID numbers, usernames and passwords, health insurance information and medical information.
