A $2.16M settlement resolves a class action lawsuit against the New England Patriots over alleged data collection and distribution through their app.

The New England Patriots are set to pay $2.16 million to settle a class action lawsuit over the team’s alleged collection of fans’ data through their app and the distribution of that data to third parties without consent.

The New England Patriots settlement, which received preliminary court approval on May 30, 2025, covers all U.S. residents who have used or use the Patriots App with location services enabled and requested or obtained any prerecorded video or videos on the app, including on-demand replay, between February 1, 2022 and May 30, 2025.
Information on how to submit a claim form online or by mail will be available on the court-approved website for the New England Patriots settlement—https://www.PatriotsVPPASettlement.com/—once it goes live.
All class members who submit a timely and valid claim form may receive a pro rata portion, or equal share, of the $2,160,000 class action settlement.
Patriots settlement claim forms must be filed online or by mail November 23, 2025.
A hearing to determine whether the settlement will receive final court approval is scheduled for October 9, 2025. In the event of final approval, and after any appeals are resolved, compensation will begin to be distributed, starting no later than January 7, 2026, court documents state.
The class action lawsuit against the New England Patriots alleged that the team collected user data, including which videos they watch, their precise geolocation and other personally identifiable details, through its app and distributed it to third parties without users’ knowledge or consent. The case accused the AFC East team of violating the federal Video Privacy Protection Act.
According to court documents, an estimated 105,000 consumers may be eligible to file a claim for the Patriots class action settlement.
