$1.857M+ Aura Frames Settlement Ends Class Action Over Alleged Unlawful Collection of Biometric Info

A $1.857M+ settlement offers cash and other relief to individuals whose facial and biometric data was allegedly collected illegally by Aura Frames.
Aura Home has agreed to a $1,897,553 settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit that alleged the digital photography framing company unlawfully collected and stored biometric information, including facial-matching data, from images uploaded to Aura Frames.

The Aura Frames class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on November 4, 2025. The deal covers all individuals who, from July 16, 2019 to November 4 of this year, signed up for an Aura account in Illinois and had facial-matching data collected from their photos by Aura Home.
Aura stopped collecting facial data from all users, including those in Illinois, as of December 7, 2023, court documents state.

According to the website, Aura Frames settlement class members who submit a valid, timely claim form are eligible to receive a one-time, pro-rated cash payment of up to $13.28. In addition to this monetary reimbursement, Aura has agreed to continue its suspension of collecting facial data from Illinois users unless it provides lawful notices to receive user consent, or if the state’s Biometric Information Privacy Act is in any way amended, the settlement website adds.
The Aura settlement agreement outlines that class members will receive their payment via check to the address indicated on their claim form, and all checks must be cashed within 90 days after issuance before expiration.
To submit an Aura Frames settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the unique class member ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Consumers who believe they may be an Aura Frames class member but did not receive a notice should contact the settlement administrator to confirm their identity and receive their login details.
Alternatively, class members may download a PDF of the claim form from the settlement website to print, fill out and return by mail to the address listed near the top of the document.
All Aura Frames settlement claim forms must be submitted online or by mail by February 2, 2026.
The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the Aura Frames settlement at a hearing on March 12, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed to class members only after final approval is granted and any appeals are resolved.
The Aura Frames class action lawsuit alleged that the digital framing company unlawfully captured and stored biometric identifiers from pictures uploaded by Aura accountholder’s to their devices, in violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
