A $1.5 million coupon settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit that alleged Traeger Pellet Grills violated state advertising laws by misrepresenting the type and/or quality of wood used in certain bags of wood pellets without disclosing its use of flavored oils.

The Traeger settlement, which received preliminary court approval on December 2, 2024 and final approval on April 2, 2025, covers all consumers who bought Traeger wood pellets, either in-store or online, while in either California or Utah at any time after October 1, 2015.
The court-approved website for the Traeger Pellet Grills settlement can be found at TraegerWoodPelletSettlement.com.
Per the settlement agreement, it would be “exceedingly difficult” to personally compensate each settlement class member given that the relevant purchases were made by more than 180,000 people between four and nine years ago. For the class action settlement, Traeger has instead agreed to attach $750,000-worth of $3 “tear-off” coupons to bags of its wood pellets or shelves displaying the products in stores in Utah and California so as to allow consumers to apply a $3 discount to their Traeger purchase.
“You may use these coupons at the register for an immediate discount at participating Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Kroeger, and Albertsons stores,” the class action settlement website shares.
There is no claim form for consumers to file to obtain benefits from the Traeger wood pellets class action settlement. Consumers have until July 30, 2026 to use the tear-off Trager coupon, according to the settlement site.
As part of the settlement, Traeger has also agreed to cease using in all future sales the allegedly deceptive packaging at issue in the amended class action lawsuit.
The Traeger Pellet Grills class action lawsuit claimed that the company’s mesquite and hickory wood pellets were falsely advertised as made of actual mesquite or hickory wood. The case alleged that the pellets, unbeknownst to consumers, were made of cheaper wood infused with flavored oils in order to simulate the flavor effects of mesquite and hickory on grilled foods.
