The MedStar Health class action settlement received preliminary court approval on June 16, 2025 and covers all United States residents identified by MedStar as having had personal information involved in the data breach.
The court-approved website for the $1,350,000 MedStar Health settlement can be found at MedStarSettlement.com.
MedStar Health settlement class members who file a timely, valid claim form may opt to receive either up to $5,000 in reimbursement for documented, out-of-pocket expenses and losses related to the MedStar data breach or a flat cash payment of $100, with no proof required.
The $100 flat cash payment may be increased or decreased on a pro-rata, or equal-share, basis depending on the total number of valid claims filed, the class action settlement website shares.
MedStar Health settlement claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by October 14, 2025.
To submit a claim form online, head to this page and enter your unique class member ID to begin the claim-filing process. Your class member ID may be found in the settlement notice you may have received by mail or email about the MedStar deal.
Alternatively, a PDF version of the MedStar claim form is available to print, fill out and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
Documented, out-of-pocket expenses and losses must be fairly traceable to the MedStar data breach and have been incurred between January 25, 2025 and the date the claim form is submitted, the site says. Such losses and expenses may include credit monitoring costs and losses associated with fraud or identity theft, including:
- Bank fees;
- Loss of funds;
- Travel expenses;
- Long-distance phone charges; and
- Postage.
Class members may also choose to submit a claim for one year of CyEx Medical Shield Complete, a service that includes:
- One-bureau credit monitoring;
- Medicare beneficiary monitoring;
- Dark web monitoring;
- Health insurance plan ID monitoring;
- Medical record number monitoring;
- National provider identifier monitoring;
- High-risk transaction monitoring;
- Health savings account monitoring;
- Security freeze assistance; and
- Victim assistance.
MedStar Health has also agreed to take steps to increase security in its systems and environments, court documents share.
A hearing is set for November 4, 2025 to determine whether the settlement will receive final court approval. Compensation will most likely begin to be distributed to class members after final approval has been granted and any appeals have been resolved.
The MedStar Health class action lawsuit alleged that MedStar’s negligence enabled unauthorized third parties to potentially access the sensitive personal information of hundreds of thousands of patients in a data breach that occurred between January 25 and October 13, 2023.
