How Did We Get Here?
The Bosch microwave oven defect class action lawsuits alleged that the purported design flaw plaguing the control panel can cause the VFD display to burn out and dim to the point of being unusable. The suits contended that the control panel defect may leave a consumer unable to see the button options, timer, cooking modes or oven temperature, creating a potential safety hazard.
The cases claimed that the manufacturer had deliberately concealed the Bosch microwave oven problems from consumers and failed to replace the microwave/oven combos with non-defective products when the alleged defect manifested. The complaints contested that any repairs offered by the company were merely a “band-aid” and did not address the Bosch appliances’ core issues.
According to the filings, Bosch could have resolved the alleged design flaw by simply swapping out the VFD display and opting for a liquid crystal display—an alternative technology that has been available for years. However, the class action lawsuits contended that the company instead chose to manufacture the microwave/oven combos—which, per the suit, retail for more than $2,000—with “outdated and defective technology.”
Was There a Bosch Microwave Oven Recall?
No. At this time, Bosch has not recalled the microwave/oven combos at issue. Other Bosch product recalls can be found on the manufacturer’s website.
