Steel Warehouse Company, LLC has agreed to a class action settlement to resolve a lawsuit that alleged the South Bend, Indiana-based industrial steel processor and service center failed to adequately protect its systems from unauthorized access amid a January 2025 data breach.

The Steel Warehouse class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on July 2, 2026. Eligible to participate in the settlement are all individuals whose personally identifiable information may have been compromised as a result of the Steel Warehouse data incident, as identified in the “class list” provided by the defendant to the settlement administrator.

Class members who submit a valid, timely claim form can receive up to $5,000 in reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket losses incurred between January 23, 2025 and December 1, 2026 due to the data breach. This benefit covers losses from fraud or identity theft and costs for credit reports, credit monitoring, freezing/unfreezing credit, replacing IDs and more.
Steel Warehouse class members must submit proof, such as bank statements or receipts, to receive a documented-loss payment.
In addition to a documented-loss payout, class members can file a claim for reimbursement of up to three hours spent responding to the data incident, at a rate of $20 per hour. This benefit covers activities such as changing passwords, investigating suspicious account activity and researching the cyberattack.
In lieu of a documented-loss and/or lost-time payout, class members can file a claim form for a $40 cash payment, with no proof required.
Lastly, all class members can elect on their claim form to receive one year of CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes financial fraud insurance, monitoring for fraud or identity theft and access to fraud resolution agents.
To submit a Steel Warehouse settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the login ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
Steel Warehouse claim forms must be filed online or by mail by December 1, 2026.
The court will decide whether to grant final approval to the Steel Warehouse data breach settlement following a hearing on October 21, 2026. Settlement money and other benefits will begin to be distributed after the deal receives final approval and any appeals have been resolved.
The class action lawsuit against Steel Warehouse alleged that the carbon sheet and plate steel processor failed to employ adequate cybersecurity measures to safeguard its systems from a targeted cyberattack in January 2025. The case claimed that the information compromised by cybercriminals in the incident included names, Social Security numbers, addresses, driver’s license numbers, financial details and more.
