The Self Esteem Brands-Purpose Brands class action settlement received preliminary approval on August 18, 2025. The settlement covers all United States residents whose personal information may have been impacted in the Purpose Brands data breach, including all those who received a notice about the incident.
The court-approved website for the Purpose Brands settlement can be found at SelfEsteemSettlement.com.
The class action settlement agreement outlines two cash payment options. Consumers covered by the settlement can receive up to $2,000 in reimbursement for documented ordinary out-of-pocket losses incurred between December 19, 2023 and December 31, 2025. Reimbursable data breach losses under this category include fees for credit reporting, credit monitoring, and the cost of replacing IDs, as well as postage for contacting banks by mail, the settlement website says.
Claim forms for the reimbursement of ordinary out-of-pocket expenses must include proof, such as receipts, the settlement site adds.
Purpose Brands settlement class members who incurred documented extraordinary losses related to identity theft or fraud stemming from the data breach can submit a claim to receive up to $5,000. Per settlement documents, extraordinary data breach losses must have occurred between December 19, 2023 and December 31, 2025, and class members must provide proof showing that the losses were more likely than not caused by the incident and that they tried to prevent the loss or get their money back, including by using preexisting insurance.
Settlement class members may also submit a claim form to receive reimbursement for up to four hours of lost time spent dealing with the data breach, at a rate of $20 per hour. Lost-time reimbursements count toward the $2,000 ordinary-loss cap, the settlement website says.
In lieu of any of the foregoing settlement benefits, a class member can submit a claim form, with no proof, for a one-time payment of $25.
Further, all settlement class members are eligible for two years of free one-bureau credit monitoring services, including $1 million in identity theft protection insurance, court documents state.
To file a claim form online, class members can visit this page on the settlement website and log in using their unique ID and PIN, which can be found in their copy of the settlement notice. Class members who prefer to submit a paper copy can download a claim form here and mail it to the settlement administrator listed on the website.
All claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by December 31, 2025.
The final approval hearing will be held remotely on January 9, 2026. A link to the Zoom meeting can be found on the settlement website. Class action settlement payouts will begin to be distributed to eligible class members only after the deal has received final approval and any appeals are resolved.
