A lawsuit has been filed against Alabama corporation BBVA Compass Bancshares, Inc. over alleged violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). According to the suit, the company placed unsolicited telemarketing calls to “randomly selected” consumers – some of whom never had any relation to the defendant. Allegedly, the calls were placed using an automatic telephone dialing system and featured a pre-recorded message – aimed at marketing certain goods and services – stating that the consumer had been chosen at random. The plaintiff asked the defendant to be placed on a “do not call” list, but allegedly continued to receive the robocalls anyway. The suit alleges thousands of people may be affected and can be identified through phone records and databases.
