The New York Times settlement covers subscribers with New York billing zip codes who received NYT content digitally or by home delivery. Specifically, the NYT AG settlement covers:
- -All New York digital subscribers who were directly billed by NYT (not a third party), and who cancelled their subscription at any point between January 19, 2018 and June 30, 2022; and
- -All New York home delivery subscribers who were billed directly by NYT (not a third party), and who canceled their subscription at any point between January 19, 2018 and August 9, 2023.
The court-approved website for the NYT subscription settlement can be found at https://NewYorkAGSettlement.com/.
According to the website, all NYT settlement class members who submit a valid, timely claim form are eligible to receive a one-time cash payment of $14. Claimants can elect to receive their payout via check or electronic payment, the settlement site adds, and no proof is required to receive settlement benefits.
To submit a NYT settlement claim form online, consumers can head to this page and enter the unique claim number and PIN provided on their copy of either the digital subscription notice or the at-home delivery subscription notice.
Alternatively, claimants may download a PDF of either claim form from the settlement website to print, fill out and return by mail to the address of the settlement administrator provided near the top of the document.
Consumers who believe they may be a NYT settlement class member but did not receive notice may contact the settlement administrator to confirm their identity and receive their login details.
All NYT settlement claim forms must be submitted online or by mail by March 3, 2026.
The New York Times lawsuit stemmed from an attorney general investigation that looked into how the news provider handled cancellations for home delivery and digital subscriptions for New York consumers.
