California
A California man has filed suit against General Electric Company and Haier US Appliance Solutions, Inc. (which does business as GE Appliances) claiming the companies advertised and sold self-cleaning ovens that failed to perform as promised. According to the complaint, when the appliances’ self-cleaning feature is activated, the ovens overheat and become inoperable. The plaintiff says he was advised by the defendants’ representatives that consumers “should not use the self-cleaning function at all” because it does not work and cannot be repaired. The suit argues that the defendants should be held liable for their allegedly deceptive advertising and their supposed failure to warn consumers that the ovens will not function as claimed.
The case seeks to cover a proposed class of individuals who purchased a GE Built-In Wall Oven, model JK5000, JT5000, JK5500 or JT5500, in the state of California.
