The Fortra data breach settlement, which received preliminary court approval on April 15, 2025, covers all United States residents who were sent notice of the incident indicating that their private information may have been impacted in the cyberattack. Individuals impacted by the Fortra GoAnywhere MFT data breach, i.e., class members, may have received notice of the incident in or around April or May 2023.
The court-approved website for the Fortra class action settlement can be found at FortraDataSettlement.com.
Fortra settlement class members who file a timely, valid claim form with reasonable documentation can receive up to $5,000 per person for out-of-pocket losses related to the data breach.
Alternatively, class members who submit a timely, valid claim form without documentation can receive an estimated $85 cash payment. The settlement website notes that cash payouts from the Fortra settlement may be adjusted up or down on a pro rata basis depending on the total number of valid claims that are filed.
In addition to either of these options, consumers covered by the Fortra data breach settlement can submit a claim to receive one year of dark web monitoring.
To file a Fortra settlement claim form online, head to this page and enter the 10-character unique ID and four-digit PIN found on your settlement notice postcard. If you did not receive a postcard and believe you should have, contact the Fortra settlement administrator.
You may also download a PDF version of the Fortra claim form to print, complete and return by mail.
Fortra data breach settlement claim forms must be filed online or postmarked no later than August 29, 2025.
The defendants who have agreed to the class action settlement detailed on this page are Aetna, Community Health, Elevance Health, Fortra, Imagine360, Intellihartx, NationsBenefits and Santa Clara, all of which, aside from Fortra, had sensitive consumer information stored in the Fortra GoAnywhere MFT at the time of the data breach.
If you received a notice from any of these companies, or Hatch Bank, which is not a defendant but used the file transfer platform at issue, regarding the January 2023 Fortra data breach, you may be a Fortra settlement class member.
The settlement website highlights that Brightline had previously agreed to pay a class action settlement over certain claims arising out of the Fortra data breach. The Fortra settlement website states that if you submitted a claim for the Brightline settlement and elected to receive benefits, you may only submit a Fortra claim “to the extent you were not fully compensated for your damages in the Brightline Settlement.”
“This means that you either selected Cash Payment A in the Brightline Settlement and your documented losses exceeded the compensation received from the Settlement, or you elected to receive Cash Payment B (flat payment) under the Brightline Settlement, but you have incurred Documented Losses after the date your claim was filed in the Brightline Settlement,” the site states.

If you submitted a Brightline settlement claim for a cash payout but have incurred additional losses since the date you file the claim, you are entitled to submit a claim for up to $5,000 in reimbursement from the Fortra settlement for out-of-pocket losses related to the data breach that are in excess of the cash amount you received from the Brightline deal.
Brightline settlement class members who did not submit a claim for credit monitoring from that deal may submit a claim for dark web monitoring from the Fortra settlement.
A final approval hearing is scheduled for September 15, 2025. It is typically after a class action settlement receives final approval from the court, and any appeals are resolved, that benefits begin to be distributed to eligible class members.
The litigation against Fortra and the near dozen customers who used the company’s file transfer platform alleged names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance details and more were compromised in the incident.
