Central Maine Healthcare and Central Maine Medical Center have agreed to a nearly $1.37M settlement to resolve litigation over a 2025 data breach.
Central Maine Healthcare and Central Maine Medical Center have agreed to a nearly $1.37 million class action settlement to resolve litigation that alleged the entities failed to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access during a March-June 2025 data breach.

The $1,368,025 Central Maine class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court on July 9, 2026. Eligible for the settlement are all United States residents whose private information may have been impacted in the Central Maine Healthcare data breach and to whom Central Maine Healthcare and Central Maine Medical Center sent a notice indicating that they were affected by the incident.
Court documents state that Central Maine data breach notice letters were mailed to roughly 218,884 people.

Class members who submit a valid, timely claim form can receive up to $5,000 in reimbursement for documented losses traceable to the data breach. This benefit covers losses from falsified tax returns or fraud and costs of professional fees, freezing/unfreezing credit, credit monitoring, notary fees, postage and more.
Class members must submit proof, such as receipts, to receive a documented-loss payment.
In lieu of a documented-loss payout, class members can submit a claim form for an estimated $50 pro rata cash payment, with no proof required.
The amount of each class member’s cash payout may increase or decrease depending on the total number of other valid claims filed, among other considerations.
Lastly, all class members can elect on their claim form to receive one year of medical records monitoring through CyEx Medical Shield Complete or an equivalent product, which includes identity theft insurance.
To submit a Central Maine Healthcare settlement claim form online, class members can head to this page and enter the unique ID and PIN found on their copy of the settlement notice. Alternatively, class members can download a PDF claim form to print, complete and return by mail to the settlement administrator.
Central Maine data breach claim forms must be filed online or by mail by September 28, 2026.
The court will decide whether to grant final approval to the Central Maine data security settlement following a hearing on October 28, 2026. Settlement benefits will begin to be distributed after the deal has received final approval and any appeals are resolved.
The Central Maine data breach lawsuit alleged that the Lewiston-based healthcare providers, which operate the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute, Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center and other medical facilities, failed to adequately safeguard their systems from unauthorized access amid a data breach that lasted from March to June 2025. Per court documents, the incident led to a shutdown of Central Maine Healthcare’s information technology applications, hardware, network servers and phone systems, and impacted names and other private health and non-public personal information.
