New York
Statewide Credit Services, Corp. (doing business as Schwartz, Schwartz & Associates) is facing another proposed class action lawsuit in New York alleging the debt collector didn’t clearly and accurately communicate the balance of a man’s alleged debt. The defendant supposedly sent the plaintiff a collection letter in February of this year informing him that his debt amount may increase “[i]f this creditor’s policy is to accrue interest.” According to the lawsuit, the man’s debt was not accruing interest and the statement, therefore, could have misled him concerning his account balance – an alleged violation of federal debt collection law.
