A proposed class action citing possible violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) alleges Revenue Group unlawfully tried to collect a $4.95 convenience fee on top of the plaintiff’s original debt amount. Filed in Pennsylvania, the lawsuit claims the defendant, in a notice, informed that plaintiff there was no fee to pay her debt online. In that same letter, however, the defendant notes that “All credit card and check by phone payments are subject to a $4.95 convenience fee.”

“By falsely imply that [the defendant] is legally allowed to seek a $4.95 convenience fee, and by attempting to collect an illegal convenience fee, [the defendant’s] letter violates the FDCPA,” the lawsuit alleges.
