Demasco et al. v. Northland Group, Inc.
Filed: August 21, 2017 ◆§ 2:17-cv-04903
A proposed class action lawsuit was filed in mid-August against Northland Group, Inc. over claims that the debt collector failed to clearly state the amount of consumers’ alleged debts in collection letters.
A proposed class action lawsuit was filed in mid-August against Northland Group, Inc. over claims that the debt collector failed to clearly state the amount of consumers’ alleged debts in collection letters. The five named plaintiffs claim they each received a letter from Northland Group stating a “Current Balance Due,” but failing to disclose whether the balance would increase due to interest, late fees, or other charges. The suit argues that all the accounts were, in fact, subject to these extra costs and that the defendant unlawfully neglected its obligation under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act to disclose any reasons why the plaintiffs’ balances may change.
