From Alabama district court comes a proposed class action claiming defendants FCA US LLC and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. sold vehicles that were fraudulently branded as “EcoDiesel.” The lawsuit claims the “EcoDiesel”-branded light trucks and SUVs were equipped with a “defeat device” software algorithm designed to cheat federal emissions testing, which lead to the Environmental Protection Agency and other regulatory groups to unknowingly approve hundreds of thousands of non-compliant vehicles for sale.
The affected vehicles equipped with the defendants’ 3.0-liter diesel engine include:
- 2014-2016 Ram 1500 pickup trucks
- 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs
From the lawsuit:
“No one would have purchased the Class Vehicles had they known the truth about the Class Vehicles. Additionally, no one could have purchased the Class Vehicles if not for [the defendants’] fraud because the EPA Certificates of Compliance that rendered them legal to sell in the United States were obtained only through [the defendants’] fraudulent scheme.”
