Global Travel International, Inc., which sells club memberships for the online discount site GoShopandSave.com, is the defendant in a proposed class action lawsuit that claims the company illegally used an automated dialing system to place calls to consumers’ cell phones without their prior consent. The plaintiff says he answered the first call and followed the prerecorded instructions to have his number removed from the defendant’s calling list, but was called at least three more times. The prerecorded messages allegedly offered him a voucher for a Go Shop & Save membership. In addition to disturbing the plaintiff’s privacy, the calls “depleted or consumed” his cellular telephone minutes and “unnecessarily tied up” his phone line, the suit argues.
