Johnson v. Butcherbox, Llc
Filed: May 15, 2019 ◆§ 2:19cv876
A California ButcherBox customer has filed a proposed class action that claims the food subscription service violated state law with its renewal policy.
A California ButcherBox customer has filed a proposed class action that claims the food subscription service violated state law by automatically renewing subscriptions without first advising customers of its automatic renewal policy, along with instructions on how to cancel.
The plaintiff claims he received a follow-up e-mail after his recurring $129 meat order was processed, but says the defendant failed to properly disclose its continuous service terms, cancellation policy, and how to suspend a subscription. California law prohibits businesses from renewing customers’ subscriptions without first providing this information and obtaining explicit authorization for recurring charges, the lawsuit explains.
