McKenzie Memorial Hospital Security Incident: What Happened?
McKenzie Memorial Hospital, a medical and surgical hospital based in Sandusky, Michigan, has reported a recent security incident involving unauthorized access to its network. On or around April 15, 2025, the hospital discovered unusual activity and secured its network, involving third-party experts to conduct an investigation. The investigation revealed that information on the network might have been compromised between April 14 and April 15, 2025.
On June 19, 2025, the hospital completed its review and determined that a limited amount of personal information may have been accessed by an unauthorized party in connection with the data breach. This information varies by individual but may include names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, driver's license/state ID numbers, dates of birth, diagnosis, dates of service, patient account numbers, medical record numbers, health insurance information, employee bank account numbers and treatment cost details.
Individuals affected by the McKenzie Memorial Hospital data breach are now being notified via mail on McKenzie Health System letterhead. Approximately 54,016 people are affected by the incident, according to a report submitted to the Maine Attorney General's Office.
