Cornwell Quality Tools Security Incident: What Happened?
Cornwell Quality Tools, an Ohio-based tool manufacturer, experienced a data breach in December 2024 that potentially affected 103,782 individuals. On December 20, 2024, the company detected unusual activity in its computer network. It was discovered that an unauthorized individual had accessed the network, acquiring certain files on or around December 12, 2024.
According to a report provided to the Texas Attorney General's Office, the Cornwell Quality Tools data breach exposed names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial details, medical and health insurance information, and dates of birth.
By August 4, 2025, the company had completed efforts to obtain mailing addresses for affected individuals, and data breach notices were sent beginning on September 4, 2025.
This is at least the second data breach Cornwell has experienced in recent years, with the company previously reporting that "borrower-related personal information" may have been accessed in a September 2022 incident.
