Walgreens Fined For Deceptive Ads
Walgreens has agreed to pay a $500,000 fine, effectively ending claims from the New York Attorney General’s office that alleged the pharmacy deceptively advertised its products and overcharged customers. The drugstore chain, as well as subsidiary Duane Reade, has also agreed to change a number of its misleading advertising practices, including referring to products as “last chance” or “clearance” items when they aren’t going to be leaving the store in the foreseeable future.
Mazda Facing Defective Clutch Lawsuit
Mazda is facing a proposed class action claiming that it concealed a defect in its Mazda 3 vehicles. According to the lawsuit, certain 2010-2015 Mazda 3s contain a defect that can put drivers at risk due to clutch system or transmission failures. Aside from the dangers involved, the failures are expensive to fix and have costed consumers thousands in repairs, according to the suit. Allegedly, Mazda knew about the defect for close to ten years, but failed to warn drivers.
Lawsuit Claims Volvo Lied About Electric Battery Capabilities
Volvo has been accused of exaggerating the capacity of its electric car batteries. The complaint says that Volvo’s XC90 T8 was advertised being able to travel 25 miles without using any gasoline, but consistently only provided eight to ten miles on a single charge. The plaintiff is looking to certify a nationwide class of 2016 Volvo XC90 T8 owners and bar Volvo from making the allegedly deceptive claims.
Chanel Worker Overtime Suit Denied Certification
California federal judge Gary Klausner denied certification to a group of Chanel workers who claimed they were required to work overtime and weren’t given required breaks. Certification was denied because Klausner found that the plaintiffs couldn’t prove that the alleged violations took place in any stores besides their own.
