Hollister Hit with Class Action Over On-Call Shifts

Hollister takes its place among the many retailers facing claims that they failed to properly compensate their employees for scheduled on-call shifts. The proposed class action hit last Thursday in California federal court and seeks to address alleged violations of the California Labor Code. According to the lawsuit, the shifts in question required employees to show up at work only to be sent home without compensation if a store manager decided they were not needed. The plaintiff argues that this practice would require workers to adjust their lives around the possibility that they would work, regardless of the time they were actually permitted to work.
