- A class action lawsuit could help hold Nutribullet accountable for the money consumers spent on the baby food blenders. It could also force the company to find a fix for the problem.
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org would like to hear from people who have noticed rubber or other particles in the jar of their Nutribullet Baby Bullet Blenders and/or experienced leaking issues.
Specifically, they’re investigating whether a defect related to the ball bearings or gaskets in certain Nutribullet Baby Bullet Blenders is causing the appliances’ rubber seals to melt or deteriorate, leaving unwanted particles in the baby food and causing leaks. If so, they may be able to file a class action lawsuit to help address the issue.
But before a lawsuit can be considered, the attorneys need to hear more from people who have experienced this issue.
What Problems Have Been Reported?
Although Nutribullet boasts that consumers can “control exactly what goes in” their baby food blender to make “fresh, healthful” recipes, many users have reported seeing black rubber pieces, liquid or powder show up in their purees.
In some complaints posted online, concerned Nutribullet baby blender owners worry that they’ve unknowingly fed their children baby food that has potentially been contaminated.
Attorneys have reason to suspect that some of the blenders may be equipped with defective ball bearings, which could degrade over time and cause the shredding or burning of the appliance’s rubber components. It’s possible that the degradation may be the result of a defective gasket, which is meant to seal the blade off from the jar.
Below is a sampling of online complaints [sic throughout]:
Used it two months, for a month the bottom part got a black ring around the black piece that holds the blade. Thought was due to spinning too fast or something. Lately my son has been getting bad constipation, sleeping horribly at night too. Today I blended a pear and it turned dark grey. Tasted it, was like eating metal. Threw everything I’ve blended with it away. Can’t believe this is still being sold!!!”
— Bianca, Nutribullet.com
The bearing became loose and back stuff built in it after every used. No matter how well I cleaned it, it always built up while blending. To make matters worst the black stuff got on my baby’s food. I realized it when I blended pears and the it turned dark grey. My baby has been having tummy aches and I truly wonder if it is because of this product and the black built up.”

Loved this blender while it worked, which was less than 2 months. Around 2 months the black rubber park on the blender unit began flaking off black powdery residue everywhere. It leaks up through to the blade side – the fact that the powder enters the side that contacts the food is a safety concern for food contamination. Not safe due to poor quality!”

I bought this item when my daughter turned 6 months so I can blend her food. And i started noting that her food is becoming dark and that was because of the black part in the bottom starts shredding and when it mixes with water it goes through food. And then I asked for a replacement i thought that it would only be the old one. So i got a new one it lasted 2 couple weeks and it started to happen again.”
— Rima, Nutribullet.com
We are very disappointed after 6 months of use. The main part with the rotating mechanism and blades started to show rubber melted and wear. But the worst part is that the rubber melt and small pieces of it pass through the rotor of the blades into the food! Very unsafe for babies. Do not buy.”
— Jorge E. Melgarejo, Amazon.com
There was black liquid rubber seeping into the jar and eventually into baby food. When I contacted service for NutriBullet , they were very casual about it and said they know about the issue . But I wanted to send this product back and all they did was send me this part as a replacement.”
— Hemant G., Amazon.com
I didn’t expected this product to be so disappointing. It started to wear out and small black particles from the mechanism in the bottom (see picture) started to pass to the inside of the jar, contaminating the food being processed. I really need a refund on my purchase. This is worthless and is dangerous for babies food.”
— Jose Mendez, Amazon.com
