United Underwriters Security Incident: What Happened?
United Underwriters, a company within United Insurance Group that provides underwriting services for other insurance organizations, has reported a data breach involving sensitive information.
A sample notice letter sent to affected individuals, seen below, states that the Utah-based underwriting company identified suspicious activity on some of its systems earlier this year. Following an investigation with third-party forensic experts, United Underwriters determined that certain files containing personal information were downloaded by an unauthorized actor on May 1, 2026.
According to a September 22, 2026 report filed with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, the United Underwriters data breach impacted Social Security numbers, medical records, financial accounts and driver's licenses.
