Sunrise Company Security Incident: What Happened?
Sunrise Company, a California-based real estate company and developer of over 20 resort communities, has reported a data breach that may involve sensitive information.
According to a sample notification letter sent to affected individuals, Sunrise Company detected suspicious activity on its systems and, following an investigation, determined that an unauthorized actor acquired certain files on its network on April 23, 2026. The full scope of data impacted by the Sunrise Company data breach has not been publicly disclosed, but does include names.
The sample notification letter, which can be seen below, was submitted to the California Attorney General's Office on July 28, 2026.
Prior to this, a May 26, 2026 post to dark web monitoring platform Ransomware.live stated that hacker group Akira was behind the attack, and that the group claimed to have obtained 13 gigabytes of data from the company. This allegedly included employee personal information, sensitive documentation, client information, financial records and other data.
