STRATeBEN Data Breach: Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the STRATeBEN data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who had their information exposed in the incident, including those who received notice of the STRATeBEN data breach or otherwise believe they are affected.
STRATeBEN Security Incident: What Happened?
STRATeBEN, an employee benefits consulting company based in Bethesda, Maryland, experienced a data breach that resulted in unauthorized access to information about its clients' group health plan members.
According to a report made to the Vermont Attorney General’s Office, the incident was discovered on December 3, 2025, when unauthorized access to a STRATeBEN employee's Microsoft 365 account was detected. STRATeBEN secured the account and enlisted a third-party cybersecurity firm to investigate. The inquiry revealed that the account had been accessed multiple times between August 14 and November 9, 2025.
The information compromised in the STRATeBEN data breach included data used to manage benefit plans, like names, Social Security numbers, and birth dates.
On March 26, 2026, STRATeBEN began notifying affected individuals by mail (a sample notice is pictured below).
