Radiology Associates of Richmond (RAR) has announced a data breach that may have compromised the personal and protected health information of 266,183 individuals. The radiology practice operates one office in Virginia and partners with seven hospitals and three imaging centers in the Richmond area.
A notice posted to RAR’s website states that upon discovering the incident, the company enlisted cybersecurity experts to investigate. The investigation, which concluded on April 6, 2026, confirmed that files containing protected health information were accessed without authorization on or around July 25, 2025.
A report submitted to the Vermont Attorney General’s Office indicates that medical records, financial account codes, and credit and debit account information may have been impacted in the Radiology Associates of Richmond data breach. The online notice and a sample notification letter (pictured below) indicate that names and Social Security numbers may also have been exposed in the RAR data breach.
On May 21, 2026, the company began notifying affected individuals using available contact information.
This data breach follows a 2024 incident affecting over 1.4 million people.
