Psychiatric Wellness Center Security Incident: What Happened?
California's Kern Psychiatric Health and Wellness Center, operating as Psychiatric Wellness Center, has disclosed a data breach involving sensitive information.
According to a notice posted to its website, the healthcare provider's management company, Genesis Healthcare Management, observed unusual activity in its network on June 22, 2026. Following an investigation with third party specialists, Genesis determined that certain files, including ones housing data from Psychiatric Wellness Center, were accessed without authorization.
Psychiatric Wellness Center's own review of the files at issue revealed that the incident may have exposed personal information, such as names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, government-issued ID numbers and dates of birth.
Furthermore, the Psychiatric Wellness Center data breach impacted certain health information, including diagnoses and treatment information, prescription information, provider names and locations, dates of service, medical record numbers, patient account numbers, Medicare/Medicaid ID numbers, lab results and health insurance information. The degree of personal and health information exposed varied per individual.
Psychiatric Wellness Center began sending notification letters to affected individuals on August 19; a sample is shown below.
