Midwest Spine and Brain Institute Security Incident: What Happened?
Midwest Spine and Brain Institute (MSBI), a system of specialized care clinics with 13 locations throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin, has reported a data breach involving unauthorized access to a network managed by one of its third-party vendors.
MSBI conducted an investigation with cybersecurity professionals upon learning of the incident and determined on June 18, 2026 that systems containing personal and protected health information were accessed on or around November 21, 2024.
According to an August 14, 2026 report submitted to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, the Midwest Spine and Brain Institute data breach exposed Social Security numbers and medical records.
A sample notification letter sent to those potentially impacted by the MSBI data breach is shown below, which adds that full names may have also been exposed.
