Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Lee Enterprises data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Lee Enterprises Security Incident: What Happened?
Newspaper publisher Lee Enterprises recently announced a data security incident that potentially exposed personal information of 39,779 people, including employees. The company, which provides local news, information and advertising in 72 markets in the U.S., discovered suspicious activity on February 3, 2025, prompting an investigation. By May 28, 2025, Lee Enterprises learned that certain employees' personal data might have been accessed without authorization on February 1, 2025.
After a review, it was discovered that names and Social Security numbers may have been compromised in the Lee Enterprises data breach. Written notifications to those impacted were sent out around June 3, 2025.
BleepingComputer.com reported that ransomware group Qilin claimed responsibility for the Lee Enterprises attack in late February and shared samples of the allegedly stolen data, including government ID scans, financial spreadsheets, nondisclosure agreements and other sensitive documents, on its dark web leak site.
