Heritage Bank Security Incident: What Happened?
Heritage Bank, which operates 50 branches across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, has disclosed that a data breach involving unauthorized access to its network may have exposed sensitive customer information.
A notice posted to the company's website states that on March 2, 2026, the bank identified suspicious activity and worked to secure its systems. Third-party experts were brought in to investigate, revealing that certain files were copied from an internal file share server on March 1, 2026. This server, utilized by employees, may have contained private and confidential information about employees and customers. The company’s customer accounts were not accessed in the Heritage Bank data breach.
The compromised data varies by individual and may include names, account numbers, Social Security numbers or ITINs, dates of birth, and addresses.
Trading publicly as Heritage Financial Corporation (HFWA), Heritage Bank reported the breach to the Securities and Exchange Commission on March 20, 2026.
