WesBanco Bank Security Incident: What Happened?
In December 2025, WesBanco Bank reported to state regulators that it was impacted by a data breach affecting third-party marketing and communications vendor Marquis Software Solutions.
In late November 2025, Marquis began reporting that a data breach had exposed information received from some of its customers, including dozens of banks and credit unions.
According to a sample data breach notice sent to affected individuals, Marquis detected suspicious activity on its network on August 14, 2025 and determined after an investigation that an unauthorized party had gained access to and potentially acquired files from its systems. The letter notes that the data breach was limited to Marquis’ environment and did not impact the internal systems of its financial institution customers.
According to a report WesBanco filed with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, the Marquis Software Solutions data breach exposed Social Security numbers and financial account information. A sample data breach letter sent to those affected indicates that first and last names may have also been compromised.
