Weiser Memorial Hospital Security Incident: What Happened?
On May 12, 2025, Weiser Memorial Hospital announced a data breach that may have compromised personal and protected health information of current and former patients. The hospital identified unusual network activity on September 4, 2024 and worked to secure its systems with assistance from cybersecurity experts. An investigation revealed that certain data might have been acquired without authorization on that date.
Weiser Memorial Hospital conducted a review to identify impacted individuals and gathered necessary contact information to notify them. This process concluded on April 21, 2025, and notification letters were sent to potentially affected individuals. The compromised data may include names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, medical diagnoses, treatments, procedures, and health insurance details, including Medicare and Medicaid information.
According to a report submitted to the Maine Attorney General's Office, the Weiser Memorial Hospital data breach affected 34,249 people. In recent years, the Idaho hospital has grown to include the Weiser Memorial Family Medical Center and Surgical and Specialty Clinic.
