Valley Mountain Regional Center in California, which serves both children and adults with developmental disabilities, has recently experienced a data security incident involving the personal and protected health information of certain current and former patients. The incident was discovered on August 1, 2023, when unusual activity was detected on the organization's network.
In response to the breach, Valley Mountain Regional Center initiated an investigation, which revealed that unauthorized individuals gained access to personal information and health data around July 29, 2023. Notices are now being sent to affected patients for whom the center had identifiable address information.
According to a notice on Valley Mountain Regional Center's website, the compromised data may have included names, Social Security numbers, taxpayer identification numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, usernames and passwords, biometric data, medical treatment and diagnosis information, and health insurance details. It's important to note that not all of these data elements were affected for every individual impacted by the Valley Mountain Regional Center breach.
