UI Community HomeCare Security Incident: What Happened?
University of Iowa Community HomeCare, a home infusion and medical equipment services provider affiliated with University of Iowa Health Care, is notifying the public of a data security incident affecting its systems. Despite operating independently, UI Community HomeCare and UI Health Care have historically shared some data, patients and employees, according to an online notice about the University of Iowa Community HomeCare data breach.
On July 3, 2025, unauthorized access to UI Community HomeCare's computer systems was detected. The intrusion allowed access to certain data files concerning customers of UI Community HomeCare and some UI Health Care patients, although electronic health records remained secure. The incident reportedly affected 211,000 individuals.
The compromised data may vary per individual and could include names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, medical record numbers, provider information, dates of service, health insurance details, Social Security numbers, and visit types. On August 29, 2025, letters were reportedly mailed to those affected by the data breach.
