Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the UMC Health System data breach.

As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.

Lubbock County Hospital District d/b/a University Medical Center and UMC Health & Wellness Hospital; UMC Physicians; and other affiliated entities (UMC Health System) recently disclosed a data breach affecting patient information to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The UMC Health System data breach, which involved unauthorized access and ransomware deployment, occurred between September 16 and September 26, 2024.

Upon identifying unusual activity on September 26, UMC launched an investigation, secured its systems, and informed law enforcement. The compromised files contained sensitive details such as patient names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and medical information. Despite the incident, UMC Health System has restored its operations and begun notifying affected patients, sending out letters starting November 22, 2024.
