The Business Council of New York State Security Incident: What Happened?
On August 15, 2025, The Business Council of New York State, Inc. (BCNYS), which represents both large and small businesses across New York, reported a data breach affecting its internal systems. An unauthorized party accessed the systems between February 24 and February 25, 2025, according to a data breach notice posted online. Once the intrusion was identified, BCNYS engaged cybersecurity experts to secure its network and determine the breach's scope.
Approximately 47,329 individuals were reportedly affected by the Business Council of New York State data breach, and the investigation revealed that sensitive personal information may have been exposed. This data includes full names, Social Security numbers, birthdates, state ID numbers, financial details, medical and health insurance information, and more. BCNYS is notifying affected individuals, provided it has valid contact information.
