On May 2, 2025, Sonrisas Dental Health, which has offices in San Mateo and Half Moon Bay, California, reported a cyber extortion incident that might have affected data of certain employees and patients. Unusual activity was detected within the practice's digital environment on March 4, 2025, leading the company to secure its systems and hire cybersecurity experts for investigation. On March 14, it was discovered that an unauthorized actor possibly accessed and acquired some files and data.

The Sonrisas Dental Health data breach has affected 15,644 individuals, according to a report submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
