SkinCure Oncology Data Breach:
Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the SkinCure Oncology data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
SkinCure Oncology has reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that 13,434 individuals may have had their private information exposed in a data breach last year.
SkinCure Oncology, which partners with dermatology practices to offer a surgery-free skin cancer treatment known as Image-Guided Superficial Radiotherapy, disclosed that an unauthorized party accessed certain company email accounts between June 23 and June 25, 2023. Following an investigation, the company learned that some personal information was contained in the compromised email accounts.
Potentially viewed information varied per individual but could include names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, medical histories, health insurance information, and, for a limited number, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and financial account and credit card information.
The company says it began sending notice letters to affected individuals on June 28, 2024. These letters were sent on behalf of its practice partners to those for whom SkinCure Oncology had valid mailing addresses.
If your information was exposed in the breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force SkinCure Oncology to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
