As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
Shore Medical Center Security Incident: What Happened?
Shore Medical Center, located in Somers Point, New Jersey, is notifying patients about a data security incident involving its former vendor, Nationwide Recovery Services, Inc. (NRS). The data breach was discovered by NRS on July 11, 2024 and led to a network outage. NRS, a debt collection service provider, secured its systems and launched an investigation, also notifying law enforcement.
The investigation revealed that unauthorized access occurred between July 5 and July 11, 2024, with certain files copied from NRS's network. On March 26, 2025, NRS gave Shore Medical Center a list of patients who may have had their data accessed in the incident. Information exposed in the data breach impacting Shore Medical Center varies by individual and potentially includes names, birthdates, addresses, diagnoses, provider names, service dates, account numbers, medical record numbers, health insurance details, and in some cases, Social Security numbers.
On May 23, 2025, Shore Medical Center mailed letters to the affected individuals and reported to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that 31,177 people were impacted.
