Sentinel Security Life and Atlantic Coast Life Security Incident: What Happened?
Sentinel Security Life Insurance Company and Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company have reported a data security incident potentially impacting the personal and medical information of current and former policyholders, beneficiaries and other individuals affiliated with the insurers.
Sentinel Security Life (SSL) and Atlantic Coast Life (ACL)—which are based in Salt Lake City and Charleston, South Carolina, respectively—first detected unusual network activity on April 15, 2025. An investigation of the incident found that an unauthorized third party had accessed certain computer systems and the files stored therein between April 7 and April 15 of that year. A review of the affected files was completed on December 17, 2025.
According to a notice posted on Sentinel’s website, the Sentinel Security Life and Atlantic Coast Life data breach may have exposed names, Social Security numbers, individual taxpayer ID numbers, financial account information, dates of birth, medical data and health insurance information.
A report submitted to the Texas Attorney General’s Office also states that driver’s license numbers may have been impacted by the SSL and ACL data breach.
Notices were mailed to those affected by the incident on or around December 30, 2025.
