OneMain Financial Security Incident: What Happened?
OneMain Financial Group is notifying individuals affected by a May 2026 data breach involving sensitive customer information.
After detecting unauthorized activity in its systems in May 2026, the lender initiated an investigation with the help of an outside cybersecurity firm. The investigation found evidence that certain data containing personal information had been accessed or acquired on May 5 of this year.
While there is reportedly no indication of unauthorized access to customer accounts, the OneMain data breach impacted individuals’ names, addresses and certain account-related information. Further, a report filed with the Texas Attorney General’s Office adds that Social Security numbers may have been exposed.
Notice letters were sent to those potentially affected by the OneMain Financial data breach on September 28, 2026.
OneMain is a nationwide lender focused on providing loans to borrowers with below-average credit.
