North East Medical Services Security Incident: What Happened?
North East Medical Services (NEMS), a non-profit community health center based in San Francisco, is notifying individuals who may have been affected by a data breach discovered in October 2025.
The healthcare provider initially detected suspicious activity involving certain data on the network of a third-party vendor, UnitedLayer, on October 19, 2025. An investigation of the North East Medical Services data breach found that a limited amount of information contained in the system may have been accessed by an unauthorized individual. A review of the potentially impacted data concluded on December 17, 2025.
Though not much is known about what information may have been exposed, a report submitted to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation indicates that the NEMS data breach potentially impacted Social Security numbers and medical records.
NEMS provides healthcare services to predominantly low-income, underserved populations across the San Francisco Bay area and Las Vegas.
